About Overtime Calculator
Works out a week's pay with overtime, for hourly workers and salaried staff alike. A weekly, monthly or yearly salary is first turned into an hourly rate using 52 weeks a year and your normal weekly hours. Pick a common rate such as 1.25×, 1.5× or 2×, or type any other multiplier, and add a second band for hours paid at a higher rate, such as rest days or public holidays. The breakdown shows every line of the sum.
How to use Overtime Calculator
- Under I’m paid, choose By the hour or a weekly, monthly or yearly salary, then type the Amount.
- For a salary, enter your Normal hours a week so the tool can work out your hourly rate.
- Type your Normal hours this week and Overtime hours, then pick the Overtime rate, such as 1.5× (time and a half).
- Add any Double-time hours, pick your Currency, and read the total pay, overtime pay and overtime rate per hour.
How your data is handled
Everything is worked out in your browser as you type. Your pay and hours aren't sent anywhere or saved; only a currency you pick is remembered on your device for next time.
Limits and accuracy
- Results are estimates before tax, not legal advice. When overtime starts and what it pays depend on your country, contract and job.
- It doesn't decide which hours count as overtime; you enter them. Daily limits and night or rest-day rules aren't applied for you.
- Some laws, such as the UAE's, base overtime on basic salary, so there you'd enter basic pay without allowances.
Questions and answers
How is overtime pay calculated?
Your normal hourly rate is multiplied by the overtime rate, then by the overtime hours. At 20 an hour, 6 hours at time and a half is 6 × 20 × 1.5 = 180, which is added to your normal pay for the week.
How do I work out overtime on a monthly salary?
The tool turns the salary into an hourly rate: monthly pay × 12 ÷ 52 ÷ your normal weekly hours. A monthly salary of 4,000 on a 40-hour week is about 23.08 an hour, so time and a half is about 34.62.
What overtime rate applies where I live?
It varies: in the US, non-exempt workers covered by federal law get at least time and a half after 40 hours a week. UAE private-sector law adds at least 25%, or 50% between 10 pm and 4 am. In the UK, extra pay isn't required as long as average pay doesn't fall below minimum wage.
